In July 2005, Drs Robin Wakeling and Nicholas Smith MP made statements in television, radio and print media that were extremely critical of the efficacy and suitability of Osmose’s surface applied boron timber preservative, known as TimberSaver®, used to treat house framing.

The land-mark NZ Wood programme was officially launched at Parliament on 13 September by Hon Jim Anderton, Minister of Forestry.
The launch kicks off the first promotional phase of NZ Wood - to present the environmental credentials of forests and wood to the building and design sector and coincides with the launch of the NZ Wood website, http://www.nzwood.co.nz.

Treated timber is used for timber landscaping, timber house frames, timber reatining walls, timber decking, timber pergolas, timber fences, timber yarding, timber outdoor furniture, timber floorboards, timber telegraph poles, timber jetty's, timber walkways and timber gates.

The Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track is a scenic and mostly CCA treated timber walkway that loops amidst sandstone tors and mountain tarns offering 360 degree panoramic views of Stuart Island, the Southern Ocean and the wilderness of South West Fiorland.

From an idea floated at a Tuatapere Promotions meeting in 1988 a charitable trust was formed to build the track and facilities, raising over $3 million and obtaining permission from private land owners and the government.
